Despite widespread globalization Cody, Wyoming still manages to successfully and, some may say, flamboyantly preserve its culture as the western town founded by Buffalo Bill Cody. Cody is a western design hub, the home of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, and the place where the Cody Nite Rodeo runs nightly from June 1st- August 31 every summer. We are the place to go if you want to see cowboys, indians, and wildlife.
Western design and western art are unavoidable in Cody. Every gallery and custom furniture store showcases nothing but the biggest names in western design. Every year Cody is the host to the Cody High Style and The Buffalo Bill art show and sale. Both events bring western designers and artists from all over the globe to showcase their western furniture, fashion, and art. Even more western at can be seen in one of the five museums in the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West, formerly known as the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, is home to five museums including The Buffalo Bill Museum, Whitney Western Art Museum, Cody Firearms Museum, Draper Natural History Museum, and the Plains Indian Museum with the addition of the McCracken Research Library. The BBCOW hosts many events and programs that further preserve, educate, and raise awareness about Cody's western culture. Every summer the Navaho tribes people put on a powwow on the BBCOW grounds. Summer classes in art, history, and science are also provided every year for Cody's youth to participate.
Cody is also home to the Cody Nite Rodeo. Starting in 1919 the Cody Nite Rodeo is known as the longest running professional rodeo as well as the worlds only rodeo that runs nightly. In the Summer, you can not turn a corner in Cody without running into a cowboy or some kind of advertisement for the rodeo. One of the locals favorite advertisements is the rodeo car. It is a garish old red station wagon with bull horns attached to the front. Workers of the rodeo drive slowly up and down Sheridan avenue every day blasting through its microphone all the events the rodeo has to offer at 8 o'clock pm every night.
These three examples are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the events and programs offered in Cody, Wyoming that showcase and preserve its culture and history. You want to drink at the same bar as Buffalo Bill and all his western friends? You can do that too!
